The first ATR of HAC features special icons representing Hokkaido, the work of local designer Nanase Suzuki inspired by the airline's employees: six snowflakes are visible on the port side to represent the 6 destinations of the airline (Sapporo, Hakodate, Kushiro, Misawa, Rishiri & Okushiri) with a red northern fox. The starboard side showcases the island's rich sea products: salmon, kelp, sea urchin and other specialties.

The first three A350 for JAL have been delivered with additional decals highlighting the entry into the fleet of the new type. The first aircraft wears red markings as a symbol of "challenge", while the second aircraft has silver markings for "innovation" and the third green ones for "eco" relative to the JAL Sky Eco initiative. Note the latter also has additional stickers on the engines promoting the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

This special scheme was unveiled on the occasion of JAL's 65th anniversary of Hawaii service (also responding to ANA Flying Honu launch in the same market). The livery featured the five Arashi members wearing Aloha shirts, along with colourful hibiscus flowers and palm trees. Arashi (literally Storm) is a popular Japanese boy band releasing their 5x20 album in mid-2019. The band has a long story of partnership with JAL.

JAC painted one of its brand new ATRs in this "stork" livery to promote its flights to the small Tajima airport where it operates the only scheduled flight (to Osaka-Itami). The special paint was designed by the airline in cooperation with Tajima airport and the local tourism board. The aircraft was welcomed by local pupils upon arrival. The Oriental Stork is a symbol of the region.

The two first brand new ATR of JAC were painted at Toulouse in a special Hibiscus livery in partnership with the Tara Design College from Kagoshima, the main base of JAC. The hibiscus is the "municipal" flower in many island communities JAC serves in the Kagoshima prefecture. The hisbiscus on the port side mirrors the islands of the prefecture. Note the two sides are different.

Southwest Air Lines was founded in 1967 and became JTA in 1993. The airline is based at Naha Airport (OKA/ROAH) in Okinawa Island. It unveiled this retrojet 20 Years after the name change, on March 5, 2013. The bright livery displayed on the retrojet had been adopted in December 1978 with the first 737-200 of the airline.

The JAL New Sky Project aiming at improving onboard products started in late 2012 with a 77W promoting the new direct aisle-access business class seat called "Sky Suite", available on some international flights from early 2013. In May 2014 JAL unveiled the "Sky Next" campaign with refurbished domestic aircraft in all 3 classes. About 70+ aicraft were to be retroffitted with new seats.

A giant 1:1 scale decal of DC-6B "City of Tokyo" was featured on an international 747 while DC-6B "City of Naha" could be seen on one of its Domestic (D) counterparts. Note the additional "New - Feel Hawaii" solid red square and additional titles on JA8907. Both aircraft celebrated the respective anniversaries of JAL's debut in Hawaii & Okinawa, which both had taken place in early February 1954.

Hideki Matsui is a now retired Japanese Major League Baseball player who played with the New York Yankees between 2003 and 2009. He teamed up with JAL (and its recently integrated JAS subsidiary) for their "Dream Skyward" ad campaign in mid-2003, a time when both JAL and Matsui were "dreaming" of worldwide recognition.
